In emergency services, we often talk about lights and sirens, patients and protocols, and the craziness of the calls that come our way. But behind every response—behind every siren and every saved life—is a system.
A system that’s carefully built, supported, and sustained by people who rarely make the headlines. It doesn’t just happen. It’s built by individuals who believe in the mission—people who dedicate themselves to ensuring others have the tools, training, and guidance to serve their communities with excellence.
This is the shared mission of the EMS Councils across Pennsylvania:
A mission measured not in front-page stories, but in the thousands of providers and agencies who stand stronger because someone made sure they were ready.
It’s a mission that takes tremendous commitment and dedication.
And those two words—commitment and dedication—don’t always look like we imagine.
Commitment isn’t measured in hours, days, or even years. It’s measured in the choices we make—day after day—to show up for something bigger than ourselves.
Dedication isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t shout. It’s a whisper, a steady rhythm—the rhythm of showing up again and again, even when it’s hard, even when it isn’t fun, even when no one is watching.
Today, we celebrate two remarkable individuals who have lived that mission for decades:
Cathy Grimes – 46 years with Seven Mountains EMS Council
Laura Rompolski – more than 20 years with Susquehanna and Seven Mountains EMS Council
Their work doesn’t come with flashing lights or breaking news headlines—but it leaves a lasting impact that ripples across the Commonwealth.
Every EMT trained.
Every agency guided.
Every community better prepared.
These are the legacies Cathy and Laura have built—brick by brick, class by class, provider by provider.
Theirs is a service that has shaped the very foundation of emergency care in our region. Because of their efforts, countless responders are better equipped, better trained, and better supported.
As we recognize them today, we’re reminded that the strength of Pennsylvania’s EMS system doesn’t rest solely on those who answer the 911 calls—but also on those who make sure we’re ready to answer them.
Please join us in honoring their extraordinary service and unwavering dedication to the mission of emergency medical services.
